Bruce A. Gardner, 72 of Morehead City, passed away peacefully Sunday, October 8, 2023, at his home, after a courageous battle with cancer.
Bruce was born on August 10, 1951, in Manchester, Connecticut to the late Raymond and Mildred Gardner. He was a source of unwavering love and support to his family and friends, especially the love of his life, Elizabeth, his wife of over 44 years. Bruce and Elizabeth started their life together in Connecticut but moved to Raleigh, North Carolina in 1988. After retiring from the U.S. Postal Service in 2007, they relocated to the coast.
Bruce had many interests and pastimes. He enjoyed travel, photography, hiking, golf, music, watching hockey, spending time with friends and family, and a good microbrew. If the Canes were playing, he’d be watching the game. He was the gadget guy–if there was a cool new tool, device, or sound system, Bruce had to have it! True to his name, he loved gardening, and their home was always surrounded by beautiful flowers. He was easygoing, fun and had a great sense of humor. Always with a smile, easy to laugh, and often with an IPA in his hand,
Those remaining to cherish his memory are his loving wife Elizabeth Shields Gardner; daughter Laurie Gardner of North Kingstown, Rhode Island; sister Jean Hare (Daniel) of Manchester, Connecticut; sister-in-law and brother-in-law Dave and Leslie Hill of Jackson, Wyoming; too many nieces, nephews, and close friends to name; and of course, Sienna, the family cat.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 11:30 a.m., Wednesday, October 18th at Munden Funeral Home, officiated by Chaplain Rick Brooks. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Carteret County Humane Society, 853 Hibbs Road, Newport, NC 28570.
Family and friends are welcome to submit online condolences at www.mundenfunerahome.net.
