SGM Bruce Raymond Brill (U.S. Army Retired), 83, of Morehead City, NC, died Friday, February 7, 2025, at the Crystal Coast Hospice House in Newport, NC.
Bruce was born in Utica, NY, in 1941. He earned a BSBA from American University and an MBA from Hofstra University.
He served in the U.S. Army for 25 years (including a tour of duty in Vietnam) primarily in intelligence assignments and special assignments, such as 4 years on the Military Staff Committee at the U.S. Mission to the United Nations, working directly with Ambassador Young on the independence for the people of Namibia from the Republic of South Africa.
Bruce served with the United Nations Truce Supervision Organization in Palestine for 2 years, travelling extensively through Israel, Jordan, Lebanon, Syria, Gaza, the West Bank, and Egypt.
He served with the Organization of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, the Headquarters of the Department of the Army Staff, and the Headquarters of the Defense Intelligence Agency. He was awarded the Legion of Merit for exceptionally meritorious conduct in the performance of outstanding services and achievements.
After retiring from the U.S. Army in 1985, Bruce worked for several defense contractors and then the Department of Treasury, working as a team leader on special studies for the Office of Chief Counsel of the Internal Revenue Service until his retirement in 2005.
He is survived by his wife, Jennifer Love Brill; his children, Jeffrey Brill and wife Monique, and John Brill and wife Molly; his grandchildren, Kasey Brill, Danielle Brill, Chase Brill, and Addison Brill; and his sister, Carolyn Gambrel and husband Dave.
There will be a graveside service at Pohick Church in Lorton, VA, at a later date.
