Brewster “Bruce” Macfadden, 91, of Smyrna, completed his last voyage on March 7th, 2017 at Carteret Health Care in Morehead City, NC.
Bruce was born May 18th, 1925, in New York City, NY, to Bernarr and Mary Macfadden. He was the youngest of eight children. His college career at Yale was interrupted by World War II where he served in the Pacific on LSM87.
Upon returning from the Pacific he met the love of his life, Marguerite “Peg” Macfadden. They married on February 11th, 1949.
He was a world record holder in swimming during his time at Yale University.
Bruce worked for Eagle Electric for over 40 years as a sales representative. He and his wife Peg were very active in their church, Bon Air Christian Church, and enjoyed golf and travelling to interesting places around the world.
He is survived by his son Glenn Macfadden and wife June, daughter Gail Macfadden, grandsons Kevin Macfadden, Dr. Charles Wells, Durwood Willis, Matthew Willis and wife Marni, nephew Peter St. Phillip and wife Paige, nieces Sandra Wagner and husband John, Wendy Greier, Joan Weigers, and great grandson Jas Willis.
Special thanks go to his loving caregiver, Becky Wells. Also thanks go to the caring professionals at Carteret Health Care who helped him through his last days on this earth.
There will be a Celebration of Life Ceremony Thursday, March 16th, 2017 at Bon Air Christian Church in Richmond, VA. No flowers please. Donations can be made to a persons charity of choice or the American Red Cross.
