Brenda Lou (Morton) Lewis

October 4, 1941 — March 15, 2014

Brenda Morton Lewis, 72, of Morehead City, went to be with her Lord and Savior Saturday, March 15, 2014, at CarolinaEast Medical Center in New Bern.

A celebration of her life is at 2 p.m. Wednesday at First Baptist Church in Morehead City with Dr. Nate Leonard and the Rev. Willie Coleman of Angola Free Will Baptist Church officiating. Interment will be in Gethsemane Memorial Park.

A lifelong county resident, she was born Oct. 4, 1941, to the late Charles and Mabel Rowe Morton. She was a member of First Baptist Church. She married the late Lenton Lewis in 1961. Mrs. Lewis was deli manager of Pak-A-Sak for several years and later at Lowe's Food in Morehead City, from where she retired. She enjoyed reading, sewing, crafts and being with her girlfriends. Her greatest joy was spending time with her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and dog, Dixie. She was loved.

Mrs. Lewis is survived by two daughters, Malissa DeBruhl and husband Robert of Newport and Christian Knight and husband Mark of Morehead City; five grandchildren, James Maxton Lewis, Randi Bell, Kameron Gwynn and wife Alisa, Dalton Knight and Emory Knight; two great-grandchildren, Macon Gwynn and Mia Katherine Gwynn; sister-in-law, Laura Austin; brother-in-law, Brian Rowe; and her extended family.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by an infant son, Charles Lewis, and father-in-law, Charlie T. Lewis.

Visitation is from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Munden Funeral Home.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Carteret General Hospital Foundation, P.O. Drawer 1619, Morehead City, N.C. 28557, for their dialysis center.
