Leroy was born on April 30, 1949, in Morehead City, NC, to the late Brady and Wytulia Golden. Leroy was a well-known and respected man, proudly serving our community for nearly 57 years as a barber at his family business, Golden Barber Shop. He touched the lives of countless individuals spanning multiple generations – from little ones experiencing their first haircuts to adults seeking his expert touch. He was happiest when he was serving others and was right at home in his special spot at the shop. He had an attentive ear for the interesting stories shared with him over the decades and was happy to chat with his customers catching up with them about the latest scoop.
Words that describe Leroy are faithful, dedicated, and compassionate, just to name a few. His Christian walk was evident in all areas of his life, whether through his role as a deacon at Woodville Baptist Church where he was a lifetime member or lending a helping hand to other churches in the community, Leroy's servant heart blessed numerous lives. One of his many acts of kindness was when he would buy flowers for the ladies in the community, he brightened up their lives and was amazing at making everyone’s day a little bit better. Leroy loved people and was genuinely interested in their lives, and nothing put a bigger smile on his face than children with their uninhibited expressions and fun personalities.
Leroy always appreciated a good meal out and if steamed oysters were on the menu than that was even better. While Leroy never had children of his own, he had 3 nephews who he thoroughly enjoyed spoiling over the years. His family loved him dearly and will miss him beyond measure.
Leroy will be remembered as a truly exceptional individual, known for his endless kindness and remarkable care for others. He leaves behind a legacy of compassion and friendship that will be cherished by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
His memory will forever be treasured by his brother, Michael Wayne Golden and wife Deborah of Bettie; sister-in-law, Kay Golden of Bettie; nephews, Chris Golden Jr. and wife Christina, Kevin Golden and wife Frieda, all of Beaufort, and Michael Golden and wife Heather of Bettie; great nieces and nephews, Maggie Dawn Golden, Chad Golden III, Brady Golden, and Christa Golden; and many special cousins.
In addition to his parents, Leroy was preceded in death by his brother, Christopher Golden.
As an expression of sympathy, flowers are welcome.
Family and friends are welcome to submit online condolences.
