Bonnie Wheeler Scoggins Adams

July 3, 1920 — January 12, 2011

Bonnie Wheeler Scoggins Adams, 90, of New Bern, NC died Wednesday, January 12, 2011 after a ten year battle with Alzheimer’s.

Services will be held 11:00 am Saturday at Munden Funeral Home with Rev. Susan Lindblade officiating. Interment will follow at Gethsemane Memorial Park.

Born on July 3rd, 1920 in Kings Mountain, North Carolina to Hugh and Vera Wheeler, she spent most of her adult life in Havelock. She was married to the late Clide A. Scoggins for 46 years and later, to Lee Adams of Newport. Bonnie was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Havelock where she was very active in the choir, and taught Sunday School. Later she joined St. James Methodist Church in Newport. She was a charter member of the Havelock Garden Club. She worked at the voting polls for more than 20 years. Later in her life, Bonnie became a passionate amateur artist. Her paintings adorn the walls of her sons’ homes.

Included in the survivors are sons and their families, Bryan Scoggins and wife, Joyce of New Bern, NC, Tom  Scoggins and wife, Madeleine of The Villages, FL; Dennis Scoggins and wife, Nancy of Marietta, GA, and Chuck Scoggins and wife, Celeste of Cary, NC. She was the loving grandmother of eleven and great-grandmother of four. She is also survived by her brother, Stanley Wheeler of Statesville, NC, and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Clide A. Scoggins, and later, her husband, Lee Adams. Her brother, Judge Robert Wheeler, and sister, Eloise Daniel, also preceded her in death.

The family will receive friends 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm Friday at Munden Funeral Home.

The family wishes to thank the Memory Care Department of the New Bern Courtyards for their assistance in providing “Miss Bonnie” with a comfortable last few years.
