Bonnie Gibble Francis, 64, of Newport, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on Saturday, August 13th at Crystal Coast Hospice Center in Newport, NC after a vigorous 2 month battle with lung cancer.

The family will hold a memorial service at 2:00 PM on Friday, August 19th at Salty Shores Campground in Newport with Bob Lowery officiating.

Bonnie was born in Cranston, R.I. on November 23rd, 1951. She worked in the insurance business for 35 years before her retirement in 2014. She loved gardening and plants, shopping, boating, and spending time with her family. Her grandchildren were the apple of her eye.

Bonnie is survived by her daughter Betty Jo Weatherington and husband Tony of Newport; son, Mark Francis and wife Jennifer of Newport; her four grandchildren, Heather "Wheat" Pasteur, Mark "Piggy" Francis, Jr., George "Georgy Porgy" Francis II, and Haley "Buggie" Weatherington; three sisters, Alice Alford of Newport, Cynthia Cotter of Hubert, and Donna Braz (Albert) of East Providence, R.I.; boyfriend, Ralph Gosnell Jr. of Newport; many nieces and nephews; and her favorite furry companion, Sophie Ray.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Plymouth and Betty Gibble; her husband, George Francis; brother in law, Al Alford; nephew, Dean Ash; and her great niece, Krystal Tripp.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Crystal Coast Hospice House, 100 Big Rock Weigh, Newport, NC 28570.

Also, the family would like to extend a "thank you" to Dr. Cuervo, Dr. Jaworski, Linda at the Cancer Center, Heather and Carolyn third floor nurses at Carteret Health Care, and the staff of the Crystal Coast Hospice House.
