Bobby Watson Oglesby

d. June 4, 2012

Bobby Watson Oglesby, 79, of Morehead City, died suddenly on his farm Monday morning, June 4. Services will be held Thursday morning 10:00 am at First Baptist Church with the burial services to follow immediately at Bayview Cemetery.

Bobby was born January 24, 1933 to the late Rufus and Verona Oglesby. He was a 1950 graduate of Morehead City High School. With the Newport River as their backdrop, he spent his entire life living and working with his father and brother, Tommy, on their family farm at Crab Point, where his knowledge and love of the land provided not only an income but many happy memories. In 1952, he married Dare, his beloved wife of almost 60 years. Several years later, a daughter, Kay was born to them. Together they worked and raised their family, often accompanied by many friends. When Kay married Dale in 1975, he finally got the son they never had. On weekends you could find he and Dale side by side. As time went on and they were blessed with a grandson, Roger, there were then 3 generations working the land. The more recent family addition of Roger's fiance Bobbi Lynn and their son Jesse brought great joy to what would be his final years. Bobby's greatest joy was his family.

Bobby was the last of a family of farmers, but he left a legacy of respect and appreciation of the land and bounty that God provides. He also leaves us with a newfound appreciation for the small things we take for granted everyday: the love of family, value in a hard day work, and the spirit of generostiy. He left this earth peacefully Monday morning doing what he loved.

He is survived by his wife, Dare Fulcher Oglesby, daughter and son-in-law, Kay and Dale Gardner, his grandson, Roger Paul Gardner and his fiance Bobbi Hoffman, a great grandson Jesse Robert Gardner, and his brother Tommy Oglesby. His death was preceded by parents Rufus and Verona Oglesby, and his sister Jacquelyn.

Family will receive friends 6:00-8:00 pm Wednesday at Munden Funeral Home.
