Bobbie B. Gordon, 79, of Atlantic Beach, died Monday, January 16, 2012 at Carteret General Hospital.
Funeral service will be 11:00 am Friday at Munden Funeral Home with the Rev. Barry Lane officiating.
She was born July 6, 1932 in Wilson, NC, the youngest of seven children. She was the daughter of Robert Henry Cleveland Bailey and Lucy Mae Batts Bailey. She was preceded in death by her husband I.F. "Dick" Gordon (1989) and son Jeffery F. Gordon (1990).
She is survived by a daughter Cathy Coats and husband, Kenny, of Durham, and a son Doug Gordon and wife, Sally, of Goldsboro: five grandchildren Michael Gordon and wife Jerrye, Michele Kindlesparker and husband Zach, Greg Coats and wife Elizabeth, Betty Sue Pin~a, and Laura Coats: seven great-grandchildren Nathan Kindlesparker, Julia Kindlesparker, Ella Coats, Caroline Coats, Aiden Coats, Jackson Gordon, and Addison Gordon: two sisters Mary B Thursby of Jacksonville, NC and Annie Ruth Exum of Wilson, NC.
She spent many years in banking, retiring from Cooperative Savings and Loan. Beginning as Head Teller, she retired as Branch Manager of the Beaufort Branch in 1996. In her retirement years she enjoyed reading, needlepoint, crocheting, and gardening. She loved spending time with her computer. Her family lovingly referred to her as the "tech geek" of the family. In her earlier years, she aquired her pilot's license. Her favorite activity was spending time with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Bobbie was known as "Mama" and Grandma Bobbie to everyone who came in contact with her.
A visitation will be held 6:00-8:00 pm Thursday January 19, at Munden Funeral Home.
The family will receive friends at 235 Old Causeway Road, Atlantic Beach, NC.
Flowers are welcome or charitable donations may be made to the ALS Association North Carolina Chapter.
