Morehead City

Billy Howard Williams, 95, of Morehead City, passed away on Wednesday, July 28, 2021, at his home.

His funeral service will be held at 11 a.m., Saturday, July 31st at Munden Funeral Home, officiated by Dr. Nate Leonard. Interment, with military honors, will follow at Gethsemane Memorial Park.  The family will receive friends an hour prior to the service. For those unable to attend, the service can be viewed through his obituary page on Munden Funeral Home’s website.

Billy was born on July 3, 1926, in Lincolnton, North Carolina, to the late Jessie and Della Williams. As an Army World War II Veteran, Billy was a hero to so many of us. His outgoing and larger-than-life personality endeared him to everyone who was blessed to meet him.

He had a gift that not many can boast of, he was blessed with over 6 decades with the love of his life, Dolores Jackson Williams, prior to her passing in 2007.

Billy’s livelihood was being on the water. He had the joy of building and being the Captain of the Ebb Tide, which was kept on the Morehead City waterfront. He built everything but the hull of the boat and was always happy to show off his craftsmanship. Billy’s main target was the elusive Blue Marlin out of Morehead City. In 1964 and 1967, he had the great victory of winning the Big Rock Blue Marlin Tournament as Captain of the Dolphin.

In his free time, he loved to play golf, tend his garden and was known for playing his mandolin at his home church, First Baptist of Morehead City. In earlier years, he was a member and involved with the Morehead City Elks Lodge.

He is survived by his son, James Williams Sr. of Morehead City; grandchildren, James Williams Jr. and wife Leigh Ann of Huntersville and Nichole Hazard and husband Ethan of Smyrna; and great-grandchildren, Regan, Kendall, Grayson, Trey, Drew, and Logan.

In addition to his parents and wife, Billy as preceded in death by his daughter, Baby Girl Williams; sister, Alice Clanton; and brothers, Ralph Williams, James Williams, and Craig Williams.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Take a Kid Fishing Foundation, P.O. Box 1191, Morehead City, NC 28557 or Take a Vet Fishing, P.O. Box 8519, Bartlett, IL 60103.
