Retired 1st Sergeant Bill Tucker, Sr., 81, of Morehead City, died Monday, January 4, 2009, at his residence.
Born November 6, 1928, he was son of the late Maurice and Willie Tucker. He was a member of First United Methodist Church in Morehead City. Sgt. Tucker graduated from Durham High School. He served in the US Air Force, serving the 809 Air Police Squadron at Mac Dill Force Base in Florida obtaining the rank of Staff Sergeant and was honorably discharged in 1954. He entered the NC State Highway Patrol in 1955, the, attended North Western University, the University of Illinois and UNC at Chapel Hill. He first served in Zebulon as a Trooper. He moved to Morehead City and advanced to the rank of Corporal in 1967. Obtaining the rank of 1st Sergeant in 1981, he served the areas of Kenansville, Wilson, Washington, NC, Marion and Morehead City , retiring in 1987 after 37 years. Following retirement, he operated a Private Investigative Service from 1989 until 1993. He also served Camp Morehead for eight years as Assistant Director, and was known as "Capt. Bill". Also, he was a member of White Stone Masonic Lodge # 155 in Zebulon.
Services will be held 11:00 am Friday at First United Methodist Church in Morehead City with Dr. Billy Seate officiating.
He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Peggy King Tucker of Morehead City; sons, Billy King Tucker, Jr. and wife Virginia of Fairfax, VA and Tim S. Tucker of Morehead City; daughters, Pamela T. Robinson and husband Charles of Morehead City and Margaret "Meg" T. Cornell and husband Brad and three grandchildren, Samantha, Scot and Caleigh.
The family will receive friends 5:00 - 7:00 pm Thursday at Munden Funeral Home. .
