Beulah Beatrice (Durrance) Garner

August 31, 1923 — February 24, 2014

Beulah "Boots" Garner, of Newport, passed away peacefully at home in her sleep on Monday, February 24, 2014.

Her service will be a graveside at Gethsemane Memorial Gardens on Thursday, 2:00 pm with Dr. Gary Carroll, pastor, officiating.

Born in 1923 and raised in Edison, GA, Beulah moved to NC in 1946 where she met her future husband, Harvey Garner. She retired from Cherry Point MCAS where she worked for many years as a telephone switchboard operator. She was a longtime member of Newport Baptist Church where she was very active and taught Sunday School, and Bible School in her younger days.

Beulah was an excellent cook and enjoyed showing her love to her family with their favorite dishes. One of her greatest loves in life was for animals, and she always had room for another stray in need of food, kindness, and a loving home.

She is survived by a son, Gregg Garner and girlfriend Bonnie Jones of Newport; two daughters, Debbie Price of Newport, and Tami Garner Wrobel and husband Mike, also of Newport; three grandchildren, John Price, Krissy Garner, and Sabrina Wrobel; four great-grandchildren, Evan and Emily Price, and Hannah and Collin Chappell; a sister in-law, Margaret Mauney; nieces and nephews in NC, GA, and AL; and a very special family friend, Mrs. Bessie Ward.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Jim and Laura Durrance, and her husband of 57 years, Lexie Harvey Garner, Jr.

Family will receive friends following the service.
