Bettye Clark Ryder, 89, of Newport, North Carolina, passed away on Wednesday, October 11, 2023, at the home of her daughter.
There will be an opportunity to greet the family and share fellowship and memories starting at 1:00 pm Saturday, October 14th at St. James United Methodist Church in Newport followed by a memorial service to honor Bettye’s life at 2:00 p.m., officiated by Rev. Joseph Park. Bettye and her husband Don will be interned together in Lafayette, Georgia.
Bettye was born on October 15, 1933, to the late Fred and Maggie Clark. Born in Opelika, Alabama, her family later moved to Lafayette, Georgia where she spent her younger years.
Bettye married the love of her life, Donald T. Ryder, on July 10, 1954. Bettye and Don started their life together in Kinston, NC and their union was blessed with a daughter, Donna. Bettye and Don eventually relocated to Northern Virginia in the mid 60’s and stayed until 2001 when they returned to Lafayette, Georgia not long after they retired to be closer to family and old friends.
Following Donald's passing, Bettye moved to Newport, North Carolina in 2014 to be closer to family. She became active with St. James United Methodist Church, where she enjoyed her church family and new community of friends.
Bettye enjoyed travel, visiting Barbados, most of Europe and Greece. She loved bowling and playing games with friends and family. Bettye was also a proud member of Friends of the Library.
Those remaining to cherish her memory are her daughter, Donna Register and husband Raymond of Emerald Isle; grandchildren, Raymond F. Register III and Katie Bennett of Hernando, FL, Kelly E. (Register) Fitzpatrick and husband Eric of Newport, and Richard T. Register of Charleson, SC; great-grandchildren, Kylie J. Makhorn of Menifee, CA, Ryder, Emmett and Piper Fitzpatrick, all of Newport, and Avery and Rian Register, both of Hernando, FL; along with numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, Bettye was preceded in death by her siblings, Wesley E. Clark, Fred L. Clark Jr., Barbara C. Webb, and Danny D. Clark.
