She gave her heart to the Lord and was a faithful member of the Harkers Island United Methodist Church. Betty Lou is preceded in death by her husband of 59 years, “E” Guthrie, her parents Rudolph and Rachel Dowty, and her brother, Rudolph “Rudy” Dowty.

She is survived by her two sons, Curvis Lee Guthrie, Jr. and wife Delight of Harkers Island and Walter M. “Mossy” Guthrie and wife Glenda of Marshallberg; four grandchildren, Joshua Guthrie and wife Allison of Harkers Island, Laurel Guthrie Taylor and husband Jack of Beaufort, Brendon Guthrie and Lauren Guthrie of Marshallberg; and two great-granddaughters, Carrington Guthrie and Augusta Taylor.
