You will be greatly missed but you will never be forgotten!!!!

It is with our deepest sincerity to announce the passing of Mrs. Bettie H. Bell,a former Carteret County commissioner who passed away into the arms of her Lord peacefully this day February 6, 2016 at her home in Mill Creek. She was surrounded by her family that was constantly at her Loving side. Mrs Bell was well known within Carteret County as the former owner and operator of Hunter and Bell's Drive-in Along with her Husband Michael B. Bell which had been a staple in Morehead City for over 42 years. Mrs Bell was widely known and cherished for her devotion to the residents of Carteret County. ( A True Voice of The People! ) Which she proved more than once by her insistence in walking all parade routes so she could truly interact with the people. This interaction helped her to see the needs of her community which led her to help obtain a much needed certificate for the first dialysis unit in Carteret County and by helping Congressman Jones locate the areas first local veterans clinic in Morehead City.

As mentioned above she was honored to serve her beloved community by being on the Carteret County Board of Commissioners for 12 years as both vice-chair and chairman during her term. During such time she was also granted the privilege to serve as interim county manager twice during her 12 year term. Within that time period she served on multiple boards that she believed to advance both the progress of Carteret County as well as its people. Such boards included but not limited to are as follows : Global Trans-park Development, Aging Planning Board, Adult Home Community Advisory Committee, Allies in Defense of Cherry Point, Civilian / Military Council, County Wide Comprehensive Steering Committee, Carteret General Hospital Board of Trustees, Delegate to NC Eastern Region Commission, Rural Transportation Coordinating Committee, Chaired the Carteret Marine Fisheries Advisory Board, Carteret Community Action, Carteret County Health Board( former Vice Chair), Economic Development Council, Child Abuse Prevention Team, Carteret County Health Foundation (former Vice Chair), Severed Appointment on New Hanover Juvenile Delinquency Council. `Although the honor to serve the residents of Carteret County was one of her greatest achievements, She did not stop there to lead by example. By that, to her family would always be and has remained her most rewarding of all her achievements. Mrs. Bell continued to set her example of public service and self betterment to her children throughout her life. Whether it was with her volunteer services to local charities and church or going back to school to obtain her Phlebotomy certification after leaving politics; She was eager to prove to her children and did so with great stride to remind us that any thing was possible with hard work and determination. With this and her faithful devotion to our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, she will forever remind us that this was not only the one part of her life. Instead it was the greatest part of her legacy.

With great relief and much comfort she was met at the gates of heaven by her parents Andrew and Lillian Hunter as well as other family and friends that proceeded her in death. She is survived by her husband of 49 years Michael Bradley Bell, and her three loving children: sons Paul Eric Bell of Portsmouth, VA, Joesph Andrew Bell of Suffolk,VA and a daughter Alyssa Paige Bell of Dallas TX and six grandchildren (Joseph Alan , Emma Grace ,Connor Thomas ,Madison Elizabeth ,Travis Jack and Austin Jade) .
