Betsy Ross (Lewis) Lawrence

October 22, 1929 — August 25, 2013

Betsy Ross Lewis Lawrence, 83, of Morehead City, died Sunday, August 25, 2013 peacefully at her home surrounded by family.

A funeral will be held 2:00 pm Wednesday at St. Peter's United Methodist Church with Rev. Karl Zorowski and Rev. Ben Ball officiating. Interment will follow at Gethsemane Memorial Park.

Betsy was a member of St. Peter's UMC where she formerly served as a Sunday School Teacher. She retired from Cherry Point after 25 years of employment. She was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star, and founding member of the Sand Dunes Charter Chapter of the American Business Women's Association. She loved painting with water colors and acrylics, writing, poetry, and various other crafts. All of her friends know her as the Butterfly Lady because of her love of butterflies.

She is survived by her husband Roger "Frank" Lawrence of the home; a daughter Brenda Roberts of Morehead City; a son Roger Lawrence and wife Susan of Morehead City; a grandson Brandon Craig Roberts and wife Mary of Morehead City; two great grandchildren Carter and Ruby Jane; and a sister in-law Elizabeth Lewis.

She was preceded in death by her parents Hayes and Maudie Lewis, and two brothers Dorman Lewis, and Wayne Lewis.

Visitation will he held one hour prior to the service at St. Peter's United Methodist Church.

Flowers are welcome or memorial donations may be made to St. Peter's United Methodist Church, 111 Hodges St. Morehead City, NC 28557.
