Bernie Sharon Guthrie

Bernie Sharon Guthrie, 72, of Salter Path, passed away Sunday, August 5­, 2018, at his home. He has gone home to be with his son “Brad” in heaven.

His funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, August 11, 2018, at Salter Path United Methodist Church. Interment will follow at Gales Creek Cemetery.

Bernie worked as a Captain with the NC Ferry Division for 33 years. His love for the ocean extended into his work as a commercial fisherman and being a member of the Salter Path Mullet Fishing Crew.

He is survived by his wife, Lettie Guthrie, of the home; daughter, Sharon Kay Guthrie and husband, Randy, of Salter Path; grandchildren, Jeremy Guthrie and wife, Trista, of Salter Path, Kalee Beganovic and husband, Senadin; great-grandchildren, Bradley Guthrie, Bailey Guthrie and baby boy, Bentley Guthrie, on the way; sisters, Corretta Avery and husband, Pete, of Morehead City, Evelyn Frost and husband, Artie, of Salter Path; and brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews and extended family and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Bernie and Georgia Guthrie; son, Joseph Bradley Guthrie; and sister and brother-in-law, Vera and Bob Melby.

Family will receive friends from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Friday, August 10, 2018, at Salter Path United Methodist Church.
