Bernice (Lupton) Goodwin

February 21, 1937 — July 4, 2012

Bernice Lupton Goodwin, 75, of Atlantic, went to meet her Savior on Wednesday, July 4, 2012, at Snug Harbor on Nelson Bay in Sea Level.

Her service will be held Saturday at 2 p.m. at Sea Level Missionary Baptist Church, with Rev. Danny Anderson and Rev. Wesley Wallis officiating.  Interment will follow at Nelson Bay Cemetery.

She was born February 21, 1937 to John and Geneva Lupton in Sea Level, the fourth of six children.  She married Leonard Goodwin on January 2, 1952 and began starting her family, eventually having seven children.  She was a charter member of the Sea Level Missionary Baptist Church and very devoted to her Church and God.  Her love of family was evident throughout her life; nothing made her happier than being surrounded by her loved ones.

She is survived by her husband of sixty years, Leonard Goodwin; three daughters, Jeannie Mason and husband Gordie of Newport, Sandra Garrison and husband Bob of Beaufort, and Susan Chadwick and husband Temple of Gloucester; four sons, Lenny and wife Meriam and Phillip and wife Libby, both of Sea Level, Marcus and wife Crystal and Charles and wife Laura both of Atlantic; twenty-three grandchildren:  Joy, Bonnie, and John; Jason, Jane, Amy, Sarah, and Heather; David, Renee, Doug, and Patrick; Felicia, Phillip, Andrew, and Audra; Temple Earl and Rebekah; Maggie, CJ, and Sandra Jean; and Meredith and Katelyn; and fifteen great grandchildren; two sisters, Carolyn Skipper and husband Richard of Chestertown, Maryland, and Brenda Joyner and husband Alton of Beaufort; one brother, Richard Lupton and wife Faye of Atlantic; and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, John and Geneva Lupton, and her brothers, Blanchard and Clifton.

The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. Friday at Sea Level Missionary Baptist Church.

The family thanks everyone for all of the love and prayers that Bernice received during her years of illness.
