Bernard “Bernie” “Doctor” Hines Arnold, 76, of Morehead City, North Carolina, passed away peacefully on Saturday, March 29, 2025, at the Crystal Coast Hospice House.
A funeral service to honor Bernie’s life will be held at 2 p.m., Wednesday, April 2nd at Munden Funeral Home. Interment will follow at Gethsemane Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m., Tuesday, April 1st at Munden Funeral Home.
Born on March 3, 1949, in Kinston, NC, Bernie was the son of the late LeRoy Arnold and Jane Arnold Newman. He graduated from Grainger High School in Kinston with the Class of 1967 and furthered his education 8 years later at East Carolina University graduating with his bachelor's degree.
Bernie enjoyed a distinguished career in sales, finding success as a sales broker in the food industry. His work extended to several military bases, including Pope Air Force Base in Fayetteville, Camp LeJeune in Jacksonville, and the Marine Corps Air Station in Cherry Point.
Having been raised on the coast of North Carolina, Bernie loved Emerald Isle as much as he loved his kids. He loved the Emerald Isle Music Festival, Carolina Beach Music Festival and in recent years, the Triangle Beach Music Festival, both participating in organizing setting up, and a constant avid supporter of beach music and beach music culture. Bernie loved to shag, he loved to be around his friends and enjoy the sunshine, surf, and of course his penny loafers. He was known to many as the charismatic “doctor” Arnold, who always had a joke and a smile to keep everybody having a good time.
Beyond his professional accomplishments, Bernie was well loved for his huge heart and kind nature. He devoted himself to helping those in need, making it a priority to help others before himself. Bernie will be lovingly remembered as a dedicated father and proud grandfather.
Those remaining to cherish his memory are his sons, David Arnold (Allison) of Beaufort, NC, Jared Arnold (Jessica) of Durham, NC, and Ben Arnold (Cecile Mouthon) of Rockville, MD; sister, Jane “Sister” Arnold Impecoven (Scott) of Eugene, OR; grandchildren, Evelyn Jane Arnold and Felix Bernard Arnold; numerous cousins including, Laurie J. Hines of Kansas City, MO; and many loving nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, Bernie was preceded in death by his brother, Roy Arnold.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Crystal Coast Hospice House, P.O. Box 640, Newport, NC 28570.
