Benjamin “Sonny” Toro Jr., 75, of New Bern, North Carolina, passed away on Monday, June 12, 2023, at his home.
A celebration of Sonny's life will be held at 3 p.m., Thursday, July 27th at the Hancock Lodge at the Marine Corps Air Station. The family requests casual attire.
Benjamin was born on October 24, 1947, in Honolulu, Hawaii. He graduated with the Class of 1965 from Richmond-Union High School in Richmond, California. Benjamin had a great love for the United States Air Force, proudly serving his country with a strong commitment that never wavered.
Benjamin had a diverse set of interests and enjoyed a good round of golf and working out at the gym. Benjamin was also an avid Dallas Cowboys fan who rarely missed watching a game and enjoyed the excitement of their victories.
He considered himself a master griller and enjoyed the process as much as the delicious outcome. And of course, nothing was better with dinner than a Yuengling-crafted beer, or a glass of wine to top off the happy occasion.
Benjamin's passion for music was evident through his guitar playing and singing. This was just one of the ways he expressed himself and he was always happy to sing to whoever was willing to listen.
Benjamin was known for his unwavering kindness and compassion. He always chose his words carefully, making sure never to speak ill of others. His gentle nature and ability to see the good in people made him a beloved figure among his family and friends.
One of Benjamin's most notable attributes was his infectious smile. It had the power to brighten even the darkest of days. When he walked into a room, his warm and genuine smile radiated positivity, instantly lifting the spirits of those around him.
Family meant the world to Benjamin. He cherished the bonds he shared with his loved ones and went out of his way to support and care for them.
The remaining to cherish his memory are his wife, Arlene Toro; mother, Adelaide Toro of Nevada; daughter, Brandi Trevino (David) of Oregon; sons, Jeffrey Toro (Melissa) of North Carolina and Benjamin M. Toro (Christine) of Arkansas; sister, Evangeline Wright (Murph) of California and Kathi Wright (Lamarr) of Nevada; 11 grandchildren; 8 great-grandchildren; and numerous loving nieces and nephews.
Benjamin was preceded in death by his father, Benjamin Toro Sr.; sister, Priscilla Dodds; and brother, Peter Wayne Toro.
