Benjamin "Ben" Merrill, Jr.

Benjamin “Ben” Merrill, Jr., 75, of Otway, passed away Sunday, July 1­, 2018 at Harborview Rehabilitation and Health Care.

His funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, July 6, 2018 at Otway Christian Church, officiated by Reverend Jack Mumford. Interment will follow at Gillikin Family Cemetery.

Ben loved flowers, loved to cook, loved to paint ceramics, loved to fish, loved the water, loved his grandkids, loved pecan trees and to shell pecans. He worked for Beaufort Fisheries as an engineer for 20 years.

He is survived by his daughter, Crystal L. Moore and husband, Tony, of Harkers Island; son, Benjamin “Benji” Merrill and wife, Tomi, of Otway; sister, Debbie Chadwick of Beaufort; brothers, Jerry Merrill of Greenville and Johnny Merrill of Pink Hill; grandchildren, Austin Moore and fiancé, Nicole Walton, Landon Merrill, Carma Merrill; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Lula Belle Merrill; parents, Benjamin and Ruth Merrill, Sr.; and his sister, Jewell Lee Miller.

Family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Thursday, July 5, 2018 at Otway Christian Church.
