Barry Ward Willis

Barry Ward Willis, 71, of Newport (Seagate Community), NC passed away on Friday, August 2, 2013. He was born on August 20, 1941 to James Belmont Willis, Sr and Cora Ward Willis in Morehead City, NC.

Barry graduated from Morehead City High School in 1959, and Fayetteville Technical Institute in technical engineering. He was a Registered Land Surveyor in North Caroling and California, and his work was in engineering, surveying and broadcasting. His nephew, Matt Willis, said it best, "Uncle B can fix anything." Barry leaves behind countless stories of his wit and ingenuity.

Besides his parents, Barry was predeceased by his brother, James Belmont Willis, Jr. His survivors include his wife, Ruth Strickland Willis of the home; sister, Sally Bett Willis Miller of Wilmington; children, Barry Ward Willis, Jr of Arlington, VA; Zack Diver Willis of Morehead City; James Arthur Strickland Willis of the home; and Hadley Ruth Willis Fulcher, and husband, Corey, of Atlantic, NC. Grandchildren include Stacy Dee Willis, and wife Courtney, of Straits, NC; Autumn Cedar Wimmer of Morehead City; and great-grandson Dee Boy Willis of Straits, NC. Many nieces, nephews and cousins were all precious to Barry.

A special thanks goes out to the superb health care workers at Harborview Nursing and Rehabilitation Center as well as Carteret General Hospital.

A memorial service will be held at Bell Munden Funeral Home on Wednesday, August 7, at 6:00 PM. The family will also receive guests after the service at the home, 214 Tradewinds Road, Newport, NC, in the Seagate Community.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Coastal Carolina Boys and Girls Club or www.bringchange2mind.org, a mental health advocacy group.
