Barry Wayne Buchanan

Barry Wayne Buchanan, 73, of Atlantic Beach, passed away Friday, September 23, 2016 at his home.

A memorial service will be held at 11:00 am Saturday, October 8, 2016 at Bogue Banks Baptist Church with Rev. Stephen Bath officiating.

Barry was born and raised in Durham, NC and honorably served in the US Army.  He spent his career as a sales manager in the tobacco industry.  He was a lifetime member of the National Rifle Association and a former member of the Rough Rider Boating Club.  He enjoyed the outdoors while boating, fishing, and riding his motorcycle.  He was a beloved and devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather.

He is survived by his wife, Louise Buchanan; son, Mark Buchanan Sr. of Durham; daughter, Michelle Watkins and husband Matt of Durham; step daughter Stacy Cathey of Charlotte; grandchildren, Matthew Watkins, Mark Buchanan Jr., Tyler Watkins, Aaron Buchanan, Emma Cathey, Baylor Cathey and Garrison Cathey; great grandchild, Mackenzie Buchanan; and former wife and mother of his children, Linda Slaughter and husband Wimp of Little River, SC.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Howard Cleveland Buchanan and Ethel Zulene McGee.
