Pine Knoll Shores

Barbara E. Williams, 85, of Pine Knoll Shores, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, February 12, 2025, at the Crystal Coast Hospice House.

Born on February 21, 1939, in Jersey City, New Jersey, Barbara was the daughter of the late Joseph and Ruth Hammen. She spent her summers at the Jersey Shore before moving to Lavallette in 1947. There she met the love of her life, Ray Williams, they married in 1954. While raising their 3 children, Barbara was very involved in volunteering at Lavallette Elementary School, Faith Lutheran Church and Cub Scouts. Her house was always where her kids and friends wanted to be and Barbara was always willing to be the “taxi”. Besides being a great cook and always having family over for dinners, she loved the weekly pinochle games with friends and family.

Barbara and Ray were the original owners of the Surf Side Motel in Lavallette. She later received her real estate broker’s license and worked at Lee Childers Real Estate in Lavallette.

In 1987, Barbara and Ray moved South, settling in Pine Knoll Shores, NC, where they lived for the past 30 years. In that time, they ran a successful Ice Cream Shop in Salter Path. Barbara volunteered for many years at the NC Aquarium in Pine Knoll Shores and the Pine Knoll Shores Garden Club where she served as president from 2007 to 2008.

Those remaining to cherish her memory are her daughters, Dana Edine of Pine Knoll Shores, NC and Cindy Natale (Gerard) of Ephrata, PA; and son, Mitchell Williams (Cheryl) of Baxter, TN.

Barbara was a beloved “Grammy” to her grandchildren, Allison Shepherd (Joseph) of Anchorage, AK, Matthew Williams of Baxter, TN, Jillian Edine of Wendell, NC, and Joseph Williams (Stephanie) of Ravenelle, SC. Barbara was also a great-grandmother, known to Benjamin and Cora Shepherd of Anchorage, AK, as “Beach Grammy”.

In addition to her parents, Barbara was preceded in death by her beloved husband of nearly 70 years, Ray Williams, who passed away in March of 2024 and her brother, Richard Hammen.

We are forever grateful to have been blessed to call you Mom, Grammy and Beach Grammy, you will be truly missed. We hope Daddy greeted you singing his favorite love song, “Get out in that kitchen and rattle those pots and pans”.

Family and friends are welcome to submit online condolences at www.mundenfuneralhome.net.
