Barbara Larue Whiteman

August 25, 1934 — December 14, 2024

Havelock

Barbara Larue Whiteman, 90, of Havelock, passed away on Saturday, December 14, 2024, at her home.

A memorial service to honor Barbara’s life will be held at 11 a.m., Friday, December 20, officiated by Pastor Jim Braswell at Munden Funeral Home in Havelock.  For those unable to attend, the service can be viewed through her obituary page on Munden Funeral Home’s website. The service will remain on the Funeral Home website for 90 days.

Barbara was born on August 25, 1934, in Mifflin County, Pennsylvania, to the late Raymond and Rebecca Loht. She was a proud member of St. Timothy’s Lutheran Church in Havelock, where she actively participated in church activities and found joy in serving others. Her big heart extended to animals, reflecting her lifelong compassion for all living things.

In addition to her faith and love, she was deeply involved in her community. She played an important role in the Chamber of Commerce in Havelock and an active member of the Republican Party. Known for her playful spirit, she was a floppy shoe-wearing, card-carrying clown who delighted countless children and adults alike with her face painting, balloon animals, and talent for bringing smiles to every room she entered. Barbara even celebrated her 80th birthday by skydiving, showing the world that age was no barrier to a fearless heart. She will be deeply missed by all who were lucky enough to know her.

Those remaining to cherish her memory are her daughter, Susan Willis (Ronnie) of Newport, NC; son, Daniel Whiteman (Cynthia) of Florida; brothers, Philip Loht (Betty), Pat Loht (Elizabeth); sisters, Karen Rubican, Jean Rutter; grandchildren, Zachary (Ashley), Jacob, Danél (Michael); and great-grandchildren, Ashton, Kora, and Michael.

In addition to her parents, Barbara was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph Whiteman; sisters, Mary Ellen Beatty, Shirley Snook; and a granddaughter, Rebecca.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Carteret County Humane Society, 853 Hibbs Road, Newport, NC 28570.
