Barbara Davis Mason

Barbara Davis Mason, 74, of Davis, passed away on Friday, December 7, 2018.

Her funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, December 17, 2018, at Davis Original Free Will Baptist Church on Hwy 70 East in Davis. Interment will follow at the Davis Community - Murphy Cemetery.

Barbara was born on March 10, 1944 in Morehead City. She attended elementary and high school in Smyrna, NC and ultimately received an associate degree at Mount Olive College. Barbara married Charles Dawson Mason, Sr. of Gloucester on February 28, 1964. They were married 53 years until Charles’s death on November 12th of last year. The couple had two children, Charles (Chuck) Dawson Mason Jr. and Leslie “Paul” Mason.

Barbara started her career at Wachovia Bank & Trust. From there she moved on to become “General Manager” of Allen Davis and Son (her father’s grocery store) in Davis and ultimately ended up managing the family business Mason’s Auto & Truck Center in Smyrna. She loved all people and enjoyed meeting everyone during her work day.

Faith was very important to Barbara and she was a very active member of Davis Original Free Will Baptist Church. Her family was what was most important to her. Both Chuck and Paul shared a bond with her that was extremely strong and special. She also cherished her two grandchildren Chandler Mason and Saylor Mason and their love for their Granny Bar.

Survivors include her aforementioned children Chuck and Paul. Chuck lives in Davis with his wife, Gay and their two children, Chandler and Saylor. Paul lives in Raleigh with his husband, Jeff. She is also survived by five nieces, Angela Davis of Beaufort, Johnna Allen Joyce of Newport, Cheryl Allen Baker of Newport, Patti Allen Rose of Chesapeake, VA and Vicki Allen Williams of Canberra, Australia. As well as sisters-in-law, Elizabeth “Betty” Davis of Davis and Violet Mason Allen of Newport.

She is preceded in death by her parents, William Percy Davis and Alma Styron Davis, her brother William Carroll Davis and her late husband of 53 years, Charles Dawson Mason Sr.

Family will receive friends from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. on Sunday, December 16, 2018, at Davis Original Free Will Baptist Church.
