Aubrey Mathew Mason

Aubrey Mathew Mason, 89, of Newport, North Carolina, passed away peacefully at the Crystal Coast Hospice House in Newport on Thursday, March 7, 2024. 

A funeral service to honor Aubrey’s life will be held at 11 a.m., Tuesday, March 12^th at Munden Funeral Home. Interment will follow at Amariah Garner Cemetery in Newport. The family will receive friends from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m., Monday, March 11^th at Munden Funeral Home. For those unable to attend, the service can be viewed through his obituary page on Munden Funeral Home’s website. The service will remain on the Funeral Home website for 90 days.

Aubrey was a lifelong native of Newport. Born on February 8, 1935, he was the son of the late Cecil M. Mason and Maude S. Mason. After being raised on the family farm, Aubrey worked many jobs in and around Carteret County including the Colonial Stores, a service station on the corner of Chatham and Masontown Roads in Newport, Civil Service at Cherry Point, and Conner Mobile Homes. He later opened Mason’s Sales, a used car lot in Newport, which he operated for nearly 20 years.

Aubrey enjoyed the waters of Carteret County, almost always having a boat. In his free time, he enjoyed skiing in his younger days, as well as fishing, clamming, and shrimping on Shackleford Banks. 

Those remaining to cherish his memory are his son, Adam Mason and wife Amy of Elizabeth City, NC; brother, Keith Mason and wife Peggy of Newport, NC; brothers-in-law, Thomas Allen of Newport, Johnny and Nancy Bordeaux and Buddy Bordeaux, all of Wilmington, NC; sister-in-law, Jean and Wayne Bostic of Kure Beach, NC; and numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, Aubrey was preceded in death by his loving wife of 59 years, Ellen Bordeaux Mason; sister, Eleanor Williams and husband Bill who were of Churchland, NC; and sisters-in-law, Sue Allen and Kay Bordeaux.
