Astrid Norman

February 27, 1917 — July 19, 2014

Astrid Norman, 97, formerly of Pine Knoll Shores, passed away peacefully at Carolina House surrounded by family and friends on July 19, 2014.

A graveside memorial service will take place at Gethsemane Memorial Park, Rte 24, Morehead City on July 24, 2014 at 11:00 AM.

Astrid was born Feb 27, 1917, in Arendal, Norway. Her family emigrated to the United States in 1924. She grew up in the Bayridge section of Brooklyn, N.Y.

She joined the WAVES, or "Women Accepted for Volunteer Emergency Service" during World War 2 in response to her brother Roy’s death while serving in the Coast Guard.

She worked at several jobs over her life, but found her true calling in selling Real Estate.

Her favorite hobbies were taking care of her home and garden and collecting antiques.

She is survived by one son, Gary Norman of Granby, Connecticut. She was married to Edward M. Norman, who preceded her in death in 1999.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Otto and Ingeborg Nilsen; sisters Nellie, Grace and Ingdahly; and twin brothers Roy and Walter.
