Ashley Steven Clemenic

January 16, 1947 — February 10, 2013

Ashley Steven Clemenic, 66, of Adams Creek, passed away Sunday, February 10, 2013 at home.

A funeral will be held 12:00 noon Thursday, February 14, 2013 at Oak Grove United Methodist Church with Rev. Ben Sims officiating. There will be a private interment.

Ashley was a caring, loving man who loved his Lord and church, his wife and family.  He had a gift for talking with and meeting people, and he truly never met a stranger-he was an instant friend.  Many of his friends have said, “He was the best friend I had in the world.”  Imagine what a true friend he was for so many to say that.  Ashley’s laughter was infectious; he was cheerful and always tried to cheer you up if needed.   He was kind and generous and always ready to help those in need.  He enjoyed the Methodist Men fellowship and their activities in the community.

Ashley retired from federal civil service at Cherry Point in April 2004 where he was a pipefitter with over 30 years’ service.  This was only in preparation for the next chapter in his life of retirement.  There would be plenty of time to enjoy hunting and fishing with his brother, nephew, and friends.

He was staunchly patriotic and loved his country.  He was equally protective of his family and friends, and he was excited about whatever he was doing in his life.  One of his favorite activities was driving his mother-in-law Mama Belle and his wife Sheila wherever they needed to go-simple things like buying groceries or going to Wal-Mart or perhaps visiting neighbors or sightseeing around the local area.  He often referred to the movie “Driving Miss Daisy” and he was their “Hoke.”

Ashley was passionate about each day no matter how simple the plan may be and was seen every day on the road in the community.  His friendly ways and smile were welcomed by many.  His greatest loves were his wife, family, and time with friends, and he will be missed so very much.

He is survived by his wife Sheila Smith Clemenic of 27 years; his mother Helen Clemenic; his brother Steven (Cindy); niece Heather (great niece Hannah); niece Ashley Sue (Jarrod) (great nephew Landon); nephew Stevie (Ashley Michelle) (great niece Hailey); stepson Kent Newton (Brenda); step grandchildren Cindy and Mike; stepdaughter Melanie Peedin (Ron); step grandchildren Lydia and Joshua; sisters-in-law Brenda Bell (David) and Charlotte Bercegeay (Mark).  He also leaves to cherish his memory an aunt and numerous cousins.

Visitation will be one hour prior to the service in the Church Sanctuary.

Flowers are welcome.  In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Oak Grove United Methodist Church Methodist Men in care of Jon Young, 3070 Adams Creek Road, Havelock, NC 28532.
