Artie Penello

Artie Penello, 94, of Morehead City, North Carolina, passed away at Carteret Health Care on Wednesday, July 12, 2023.

Artie was born on May 21, 1929, in Queens, New York, to the late Frank and Frieda Penello. He loved fishing and spent many happy hours enjoying the peacefulness of the water and of course the thrill of the next big catch. In his spare time, Artie built various models and was always ready for a new challenge and the delight of completion. Horse racing was his favorite sport to watch, admiring the beauty and agility of the horses, their speed, and the excitement of who will take the prize. Artie valued the many connections he made at the Elk Lodge in Morehead City where he was a longtime member.

Artie’s life and legacy impacted his family tremendously. He will be remembered as a loving husband, supportive father, and proud grandfather to his family who will miss him dearly.

Those remaining to cherish his memory are his loving wife, Linda Ann Penello of the home; sons, Benjamin Penello (Amber) of Morehead City, NC, Wayne Penello (Leslie) of Texas, Arthur Penello Jr. (Paula) of Florida, and Michael Penello of New York; step-daughter, Angela Wingenroth (Jim); grandchildren, Michael Jr., Joseph, Jessica, John, Sherry, Arthur III, Brian, Sarah, Reid, Grace, Falyn, Sophia, Alex, Lilly, and Emily; and several greatgrandchildren.

In addition to his parents, Artie was preceded in death by his daughter, Linda Durham; and brother, Louis Penello.
