Arthur Benjamin "A.B." Wheless, 93, of Sea Level, died Friday, May 2, 2014 at Snug Harbor on Nelson Bay.
A memorial service will be held 11:00 am Friday at Layton-Anderson Funeral Home in Florence,SC.
A.B. was born in Timmonsville, SC to the late Arthur B. and Marie Wheless, on March 16, 1921. He worked in steel construction and design, and retired in 1985 from the Newport News Shipbuilding & Dry Dock Co in VA. He was active member of North Riverside Baptist Church and the Exchange Club Denbigh, VA (served as treasurer). When he retired in 1985 to North Myrtle Beach, SC. involved in civic and church affairs including Meals on Wheels, Nifty-Fifty, served as treasurer and deacon in church, and charter member of Bible Fellowship. AB moved to Greenville, NC in 2002 to be near family members and was active in the Kiwanis Club Golden K. In 2010, he relocated to Carteret County. AB was an avid Clemson Football fan and enjoyed gardening.
He is survived by a daughter Beverly Wheless Plasters and husband Charles of Newport, NC; two granddaughters Elizabeth Plasters Rabon and husband Sidney of Elizabeth City, NC, and Catherine Plasters Imperial and husband Mark of Wilmington,NC; three great grandchildren Emily Marie Rabon, Sarah Catherine Rabon and Peyton Elizabeth Imperial; two brothers Frank H. Wheless of Newport News, VA, and Albert E. Wheless of North Myrtle Beach, SC; and numerous beloved nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wife Jean Willis Wheless, parents Arthur B. and Marie Martin Wheless, a daughter Roseanne, brother James Wheless, four sisters Sadie Louise Wheless, Virginia M. Wheless Shea, Catherine Wheless Herlehy, and Margaret Wheless Leslie.
Visitation will be one hour prior to the service.
The family would like to thank the staff at Snug Harbor for the love and care provided to AB.
