Antonio "Tony" Rodriguez

Antonio "Tony" Rodriguez, 64, of Newport, died Tuesday, June 11, 2013, at Carteret General Hospital.

Tony retired as a Sgt. Major of the USMC after 22 years of service, including two tours in Vietnam. He was the first Puerto Rican to receive this rank. He was an avid motorcyclist. He is described by his family to be an essentially loving and giving human being.

He is survived by his mother Gidalthy Garcia of San Juan, Puerto Rico: a son Anthony Rodriguez III of California: two sisters Gidalthy Redding and husband Robert of Stuyvesant, NY, and Mildred Rodriguez-Roche of New York City, NY: and many cousins, nieces, nephews, and beloved friends.

In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to the American Veterans Association 4647 Forbes Blvd. Lanham, MD 20706.
