Anthony “Andy” Lee Salter, Sr., 69, of Swansboro, passed away Wednesday, August 30, 2017 at Onslow Memorial Hospital.

His funeral service will be held Sunday, September 3, 2017 at 2 p.m. at Salter Path United Methodist Church, officiated by Pastor David Bratton. Interment will follow at Gethsemane Memorial Park.

Andy loved the water and enjoyed working in it.  He had been working in the water with his brothers for most of his life, and only slowed down in the past few years before he finally gave up his passion forever.  Up until the past few years, Andy could be regularly seen fishing out in Bogue Sound, setting his flounder nets, and working at the back of his house hanging loose netting.  This was an enjoyable chore for Andy, even if he was not able to be out fishing that day.

Andy and Gene later commissioned the Dwana-Tiffany fishing boat and used it to work the waters of North and South Carolina for many years.

Andy served his country by enlisting in the United States Army, where he served from 1967 until 1997; until he retired after 30 years of duty.

Andy and his brother, Gene, worked together for many years building houses and doing trim outs.  In the mid 1970’s Andy started Salter Brother Builders and in the 1990’s he started A and L Construction Co. and Rentals.

Andy was always an active member in the community and served any way he could by joining The Salter Path Fire Department in the early 1960’s.  There he worked in various key positions until he finally served as Chief.  Andy remained active in the department until the late 1990’s when he relocated to Swansboro.
