Annie Julia “Judy” Snelgrove Rivers

Annie Julia “Judy” Snelgrove Rivers, 93, passed away on Thursday, October 17, 2024, at Croatan Ridge Rehabilitation & Nursing Center in Newport, North Carolina.

Judy was born to the late Trannie and Ezra Eli Snelgrove on December 2, 1930. She grew up in West Columbia, South Carolina, and graduated from Brooklyn Cayce High School.

After marrying Jim Rivers in 1953, she enjoyed being an Air Force wife and living in several places in Texas. In 1959, she and her husband surrendered their lives to the Gospel ministry and began a four-year period of preparation. Judy attended the University of South Carolina and Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary along with her husband and graduated from Southeastern with an Associate Degree in Theology. She served alongside her husband for seven years at Dutch Fork Baptist Church in Ballentine, SC, and for twenty-nine years at Millbrook Baptist Church in Aiken, sc.

In addition to being a teacher in many capacities and serving in many community and church causes, she was a devoted mother to two children, Jimmy and Julie, and a loving grandmother to three grandchildren, Katie, Whitney and Derek along with her great-grandchildren, Wyatt, Rowan, Connor, River, Myla, Avery and Reagan. She was a faithful servant of her Lord who was loved and honored by her family and the congregations she served. She was a past president of the Town and Country Club of Aiken and a past member of the board of Community Concerts of Aiken.

Judy is survived by her son Jimmy and daughter-in-law Mona of Newport, NC; her grandchildren, Katie Thompson (Chris), Whitney Mayer (Kyle), Derek Rivers (Kristi); and her great-grandchildren, River, Avery, and Myla Thompson, Wyatt and Connor Mayer, and Rowan and Reagen Rivers.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her daughter, Julia Rivers, and husband W. James “Jim” Rivers.

There will be a private graveside service on November 2nd at Mt. Horeb Church in Lexington, SC.
