Anne Gillikin Gibbs, 94, of Morehead City, passed away Saturday, October 31, 2015 at her home.

She is survived by her son, Henry Len Gibbs and daughter-in-law, Marie Mabe Gibbs, of Morehead City; three grandchildren, Dharma Len Gibbs, Chelsea Brenna Gibbs, Meredith Anne Dowty Hall and son-in-law Kevin Hall; and two greatgrandchildren, Violet Monet Gibbs and Marshall Henry Hall.

She was preceded in death by her husband, H.S. Gibbs, Jr.; daughter, Carole Ann Gibbs Dowty; parents, George Ennett Gillikin and Nellie Lepper Gillikin; and four sisters, Alice Abbott, Mary Ennett Hughes, Pauline Bell, and Ellen Morton.

Anne was born in Morehead City on October 4, 1921 and lived her entire life in this community. She graduated from Morehead City High School and worked at the Sanitary Restaurant and First Citizens Bank. An attractive lady who always kept up her appearance, Anne held the title of Miss Morehead City in 1946. She married H.S. Gibbs, Jr. on April 15, 1949 and they were married for 55 years until his death in 2004. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church. Anne loved to travel and she kept many scrap books full of memories of her family and friends. She enjoyed working in her yard on Virginia Ave and tending to her prized fig tree. She was known for her delicious fig preserves and sweet potato pies. In the last few years, she enjoyed riding around the community with her close friend and care giver, Effie Malacoski, “supervising” many of the new construction projects.  Anne was a resilient woman who came from humble beginnings and was a great example of strength to her family and friends. She will be greatly missed.

A memorial service will be held at 2:00 pm Thursday, November 5, 2015 at First United Methodist Church with Rev. Powell Osteen officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church. Inurnment will follow at Bayview Cemetery.
