Ann Hughes Luthy

Ann Hughes Luthy, 78, of Newport, NC, formerly of Haw River, NC, passed away at her home on Monday, July 22, 2024.

Born on August 25, 1945, in Mebane, NC, Ann was the daughter of the late William Burlie Hughes and Zelma Madge Mixon. Her life journey led her through a fulfilling career at SPX Refrigeration as a Quality Assurance Supervisor, followed by dedicated service at the Newport Library.

Ann's happy place was the beach where she enjoyed soaking in the sun and relaxing in the peace of the sandy shores. Watching her grandchildren play brought immense joy to her life; their laughter was music to her ears. Social by nature, Ann loved outings and get-togethers with her friends and family. Known for her compassionate spirit, Ann's willingness to assist her neighbors reflected her caring nature. Whether immersed in a captivating book, working in her yard, or speed walking through her Newport neighborhood, she found contentment in simple pleasures. 

Those remaining to cherish her memory are her daughters, Carol Luthy (Maureen Owens) of Auburn, NY, and Terri Buchanan (Charles) of Ivor, VA; sisters, Sandy Rogers (Buddy) of Kinston, NC, Brenda Grudzinski of Garner, NC, and Beverly Wolfgram of Murfreesboro, TN; granddaughter, Gayle Buchanan of Chesapeake, VA; and numerous nieces, nephews and close friends.

In addition to her parents, Ann was preceded in death by her siblings, Joan Barrows, Billy Hughes, Tommy Hughes, Donald Hughes, and Butch Hughes; and her grandson, Will Buchanan.

The family will celebrate her life privately.
