Interment will follow at Vergie Mae Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m., Thursday, March 13th at Harkers Island Pentecostal Holiness Church. Tommy was born on July 30, 1956, in Panama City, Florida, to Tom and Lessie Mae Smith while his father was stationed in the US Air Force. The family later moved back home to Davis when Tommy was in elementary school. Tommy had a love for music and was known for his singing and guitar playing. It was through this that he met the love of his life, Cecila Lawrence, during a concert at Atlantic Elementary. Tommy and Cecila were married on June 28, 1980, where he once again showed his talent by singing “Longer” to her during the ceremony. Into their union one daughter, Allison, was born.
Tommy loved the Lord and his family. The apple of his eye was his granddaughter, Carrington. Tommy will be missed, but we have the assurance we will see him again.
He is survived by his wife, Cecila Smith of the home; daughter, Allison Guthrie (Joshua) of Harkers Island; granddaughter, Carrington Guthrie; and numerous cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Tom and Lessie Smith; in laws, Cecil and Rena Lawrence; maternal grandparents, Courtland and Lina Styron; paternal grandparents, Alonzo and Grace Smith; uncle, Fred Smith; and aunts, Lorna Peters and Marie Holcomb.
The family would like to thank everyone for their prayers during this difficult time.
A special thanks to Deb Willis and Pruitt Hospice Care for all their help.
