Allen Gray

Allen R. Gray born April 8, 1940 in Richlands, NC to the late Edith Ann Gray and the late Stonewall Jackson Gray, passed away at home Tuesday November 15.
A graveside service will be held 11:00am Saturday at Cedar Grove Cemetery.
He graduated from Newport High School in 1958. He joined the Air Force in 1960. He received AF Commendation Medal, AF Good Conduct Medal with four oak leaf clusters for 15 years of service, National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, and Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal. He retired with 20 years of honorable and faithful service as a Meteorologist.
He Then moved back home to Newport, NC, and joined the Newport Fire Department as an active firefighter. He helped re-instate the Junior Firefighter's program. He served as their leader for four years. He also worked at NADEP, Cherry Point as an aircraft mechanic on the C-130's until retiring.
Allen is survived by his wife Ellen of 39 years: two daughters Kimberly Wichtl and husband Joey of Newport, and Tammie Gray of Newport: three grandchildren James 13, Tyler 7, and Kaylee 4: a brother Thomas Gray and wife Sharon of Sanford: a sister Ellen Harp of Wilmington,NC.
In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to the Crystal Coast Hospice House PO Box 483 Morehead City, NC 28557.
Visitation will be held 6:00-8:00pm Friday at Munden Funeral Home.
