Allen Garner, Jr., 59, of Cedar Island and Williston, passed away Sunday, February 5, 2017 at Vidant Medical Center.

A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, February 8, 2017 at 3:00 PM at Munden Funeral Home Chapel in Morehead City with the Reverend Keith Wall officiating.  Family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.

Allen was a Corporal in the Carteret County Sherriff’s Office Detention Center. He was past president of the Cedar Island Fire Department. He was a volunteer and was instrumental in helping get a grant for the building addition. He served 14 years as a volunteer with the Newport Fire Department. Allen served as President of the Friends of Scouting Down East in Davis where he was a charter member.  Allen also served for over 10 years as an adult leader in Cub Scout Pack 252 as a Den Leader, then in Boy Scout Troop 252 as an Assistant Scout Master. Allen was active in the community and never met a stranger. His greatest accomplishment was being a loving daddy.

Allen is survived by wife, Judy Garner; daughters, Christina Garner of Newport, Melissa Garner Davis and fiancée Daryl Styron of Sea Level and Raegann Garner of the home; son, Devan Garner of the home; brother, Ward Garner; grandchildren, Cooper Davis and Ryan Hryniszak, Jr.; uncle and aunt, Jackie and Brenda Smith of Smithfield; cousins, Kim Puckett and Kelly Earp; God children, Trisha Flint Wilson, Stephanie Burks, Andrew Solano and Jonathan Morgan.

He was preceded in death by his father Thomas Lee Garner; parents in law, Vernon and Vernie Parish.
