Alda Ruth Lamm Fountain

Alda Ruth Lamm Fountain, age 94, of Morehead City, North Carolina, passed away on Thursday, February 20, 2025.

Alda was born on August 13, 1930, in Wilson County, NC, to Elisha Washington Lamm and Sallie Coleman Lamm. She graduated from Rock Ridge High School and went on to build a career in trust and estate banking. Known for her extensive knowledge in the field, she continued working in fiduciary tax services even after retiring, assisting both a CPA firm and an attorney. Remarkably, she remained active in tax preparation through the age of 93, helping friends and family with their returns.

On March 21, 1954, Alda married Garland Fountain, and together they made their home in Rocky Mount, North Carolina. They raised two daughters in a warm and loving household, cherishing family life until Garland's passing in 1984. In retirement, Alda dedicated much of her time to caring for her grandchildren, who affectionately called her "Nana."

Alda had a deep love for travel. When their children were young, she and Garland took them camping every summer at Lake Gaston. After Garland's passing, she purchased a trailer at Indian Beach, NC, where she, her daughters, and their families created countless cherished memories. She also enjoyed taking trips and cruises with family and friends.

She is survived by her daughter, Susan F. Proctor of Morehead City, NC; daughter, Martha F. Cherry (Michael) of Cape Carteret, NC; grandson, Bradley Allen Proctor (Hope) of Huntsville, AL; grandson, Samuel Wesley Proctor (Addie) of Torrance, CA; grandson, Stephen Coleman Cherry (Anna-Dreher) of Rocky Mount, NC; granddaughter, Georgia Belle Cherry of Cape Carteret, NC; and great-grandchildren Christian, Opal, Seth, Charlie, and Gracen Proctor. She also leaves behind many beloved nieces, nephews, and in-laws.

In addition to her parents, Alda was preceded in death by her husband, Garland Fountain, her son-in-law, Greg Proctor, and her sisters, Lorraine Davis and Alberta Ferrell.

The family extends heartfelt gratitude to Englewood United Methodist Church of Rocky Mount, NC, for the love and support they provided Alda over the years. They also wish to thank Brekenridge Retirement Center of Rocky Mount, where she enjoyed many years in an independent living apartment, and SECU Hospice House of the Crystal Coast in Newport, NC, where she spent her final days.

A memorial service honoring Alda's life will be held at Englewood United Methodist Church in Rocky Mount, NC, on Saturday, March 1, 2025. Visitation will begin at 10:30 a.m., followed by the service at 11:00 a.m.
