Albert "Al" Noble McElmon, Sr., 84, of Morehead City, died Sunday, September 29, 2013 at Carteret General Hospital.
Funeral services will be held 2:00 pm Wednesday at First Free Will Baptist Church with Rev. Mance Cason and Rev. Jerry Johnson officiating. Interment will follow at Gethsemane Memorial Park.
Al played the sousaphone in the first Marine Corp Band at Cherry Point, NC in 1946. After leaving the Marine Corp, he was employed by the Railroad Express until they closed the Morehead City office. At that time, he went to work for the USPS until his retirement. Al and his wife Marie were caretakers for the Albemarle Presbyterian Camp for 27 years. Throughout his time in Morehead City he worked in the First Free Will Baptist Church as choir director for 53 years, general superintendent of Sunday School and served on various committees. His service to the Lord was not limited to the church as his testimony followed him where ever he went.
He is survived by three children, Sandra Green and husband Richard of Morehead City, Janet Confer and husband Harvey of Ft. Myers, FL and Albert McElmon, Jr. and wife Deanna of Newport ; two sisters, Betty McElmon and Florence Noschese both of Eaton Town, NJ;lifetime friend and caregiver, Douglas Elliott of Morehead City; also six grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Frances Marie Rice McElmon, parents, Byron and Laura McElmon, two brothers, and two sisters.
The family will receive friends hour & half prior to the service at the church.
