Albert "Al" Lassiter Felton

September 4, 1937 — May 3, 2018

Albert (Al) Lassiter Felton, 80, died on May 3, 2018 after a brave seven-month battle with cancer.

A service of death and resurrection will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, May 7, 2018 at Munden Funeral Home in Morehead City, with Reverend Alan Felton officiating.  Attendees should dress informally as Al requested. The family will greet friends immediately before the service from 12:00 p.m. until 2:00 p.m.

Al grew up in Macclesfield, North Carolina and was a graduate of Oak Ridge Military Institute and Atlantic Christian College. He spent nearly three decades working in law enforcement, eventually rising to the rank of colonel with the Enforcement Division of the NCDMV. Al retired to the Crystal Coast and spent his retirement as the owner of Motor Carriages USA, indulging his passion for buying, selling, and collecting classic and other cars. Al was a member of Masonic Lodge Concord No. 58, a member of the North Carolina York Rite, and also a member of the Sudan Shriners where he participated in the Horse Patrol, the Mini Trucks Patrol and, most recently, the Sudan Temple Convertibles Unit. He enjoyed membership in the Crystal Coast Cruisers car gang.  Al also loved his Boston Terriers, including his last one, a rescue, Sir Socks.

Al is survived by his wife Gene Thompson with whom he shared 38 wonderful years of marriage. He is also survived by his son, Reverend Alan Felton and wife Joan, and two grandchildren, John Alan and Virginia Gayle, of Durham NC, his sister, Mae Carroll, of Rocky Mount NC, and brother and sister-in-law, John and Leta Thompson, of Chocowinity NC.

Al was preceded in death by his daughter, Marilyn Lewis Felton, his first wife, Gayle Carlton Felton, his brother-in-law, Hayes Carroll, and his parents Dorphy and Ella Mae Felton.

In lieu of flowers, those wishing to honor Al are asked to donate to the Sudan Shriners Children’s Hospital Transportation Fund, 403 East Front Street, New Bern NC, 28560-4916 or to the charity of their choice.
