Albert Fowler Rodrick, 86, of Havelock, passed away Monday, April 27, 2020, at Carolina East Medical Center, following a period of declining health.
Mr. Rodrick was born in New York City to the late William D. and Alice E. Rodrick. He grew up on the North Shore of Massachusetts, living in Lynn and Swampscott. He graduated in 1951, from Lynn Vocational Technical School, and enlisted in the United States Marine Corps. He served in the Marines during the Korean War. Mr. Rodrick attended the California Institute of Technology and later worked in the computer field at various companies, including IBM.
As a Coast Guard-certified master mariner, he and his wife sailed the Eastern seaboard from the Maritimes to the Outer Banks to the Virgin Islands. Over the years, they ran a charter boat business, and under Captain Rodrick’s command, sailed the tall ship Providence that was based in Newport, Rhode Island.
The Rodrick’s settled in North Carolina, first on the outer Banks, and later in Havelock, where they lived for several years.
Mr. Rodrick is survived by his daughter, Laurie Wonders of Colorado, sister, Jean Rodrick Bogg of Virginia; brother and sister-in-law, William and Sharon Cochran of Massachusetts; 2 nieces, Frances and Ryan Cochran, both of Massachusetts; and several cousins.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Helen Frances Cochran Rodrick, who passed away on December 30, 2019.
