Albert Knecht Detwiller, III

Albert Knecht Detwiller, III, 73, of Newport, passed away Saturday, February 10, 2018 at his home surrounded by his loved ones.

A private family service has been held.

Albert (aka: Buddy, Dad, Pappy, AK, AL) was born October 1, 1944 in Rockaway Beach, New York. He married his wife, Marilyn A. Knott of New York, NY on January 24, 1966.

Albert was a member of One Harbor Church in Swansboro. He has touched so many lives with his love of Jesus Christ and sharing his knowledge of Him. He had a big heart and enjoyed volunteering with Hospice, EMT with Emerald Isle and Broad and Gales Creek, and prison ministry. He was a member of S.E.A.S and was a graduate of Georgetown University.

He will be always cherished by his “Spice”. He was known for his sense of style, puzzles, riddles, and jokes, his “Happy Pappy Nappy”, his love for sailing, his thoughts on poems and writing, being happy in all situations, his stories, sharing his dried fruit, his contentment, his wit and compassion, his lightheartedness, his wisdom and mentorship, He was a great man with his handlebar mustache.

He is survived by his wife, Marilyn, and their three children and spouses: Kevin and Rachael Detwiller, Craig and MaryPat Detwiller and Jennifer and Jerry Hanifan; brothers and sisters, Dennis and Karen Detwiller, Gregory and Diane Detwiller, Bobby Detwiller, Peggy and Gary Divito, Patrick and Cindy Detwiller, Susie Detwiller, and Tommy and Melissa Detwiller; grandchildren, Kiara Detwiller, Catherine Detwiller, Alexi Detwiller, Case Detwiller, Finnuala Hanifan, Dylan Detwiller, Gerald “Treas” Hanifan, III, Conor Detwiller, Michaella Hanifan, Cian Hanifan, and James Detwiller.

He was preceded in death by his father, Albert Knecht Detwiller, Jr. and mother, Rita Marie Gilchrist Molaf and brother, John Patrick Detwiller.

In lieu of flowers, memorials can be sent to One Harbor Church at 502 Church St., Swansboro, NC 28584.
