Agatha Pauline (Golden) Merrell

Agatha Golden Merrell, 96, of Beaufort, died Friday, March 23, 2018 at her home.

Her funeral service will be held on Tuesday, March 27, 2018 at 2:00 p.m. at Calvary Baptist Church, in Beaufort, officiated by Pastor David Bruce. Interment will follow at Carteret Memorial Gardens.

Agatha was a dedicated member of Calvary Baptist Church in Beaufort where she helped with Vacation Bible School and many women’s activities. She was a devoted wife and mother to her family. Agatha enjoyed traveling with her husband while he was in the US Army, they went to Iran, Japan and throughout Europe.

She is survived by her son, George D. Merrell, III and wife, Rose of Kamiah, ID; daughter, Paula Merrell Butler of Beaufort; grandchildren, Joseph Merrell, Cassie Morton, Emily Butler, Patrick Culpepper; great-grandchildren, Zak Merrell, Bly Whaley, Abigail Merrell, Greyson Parker Merrell; special care giver, Clarice Arthur who served the family for 13 years; loving Gillikin first cousins, Mildred Piner, Nancy Davis; and other family.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Nathan and Myrtle Golden; husband, George Dewey Merrell, Jr., and grandson, Christopher Butler.

Family will receive friends on Monday, March 26, 2018 from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Calvary Baptist Church in Beaufort.
