Adrienne Smith Norman, 83, of Salter Path, passed away Tuesday, November 3, 2009, at home, following an extended illness.
Born May 30, 1926, to the late Elijah and Lila Smith, she lived in Salter Path her entire life. Always connected to the water surrounding her, she helped her family in the commercial fishing industry, opening scallops, processing seafood and cooking in several local restaurants. She was quick to laugh and enjoyed her family. She was an excellent cook and a diligent worker, She took great pleasure in feeding those she loved, and strangers, alike; no one ever had to leave her kitchen hungry. She was a generous and loving mother and grandmother; she answered to many names, "Mer" to one, "Ma" to others, loved by all.
Services will be held 2:00 pm Friday at Salter Path United Methodist Church with Rev. Clyde Cheezem officiating. Interment will follow at Gethsemane Memorial Park.
She is survived by her husband, Bruce Norman of the home; her daughter, Connie Willis and husband Brink of Salter Path; sons, Bruce Norman, Jr. and wife Jo Ann of Emerald Isle, Michael Norman and wife Jeanine of Salter Path and Dale Norman and wife, Norma of Morehead City; her brother, Ralph Smith of Salter Path; her grandchildren, Sonya and Brinkley Willis, Joshua Salter, Kayla Norman, Bennett and Adrienne Norman and Brandi Smith; four great grandchildren, Chandler Willis, Jamison and Bryson Willis and Chloe Norman, all of Carteret County and she leaves behind an extended family of nieces, nephews ane other loved relatives.
Preceding her in death were her brothers, Garland, Irving, James Wesley and Homer, her sisters, Rebecca, Laura Francis and Vernona, her first husband, Tom Moore and her beloved grandson, Perry Norman.
The family will receive friends 6:00 - 8:00 pm Thursday at the church.
