Ada Gray Lupton

Ada Gray Lupton, 95, of Newport, passed away surrounded by her loving family on Tuesday, June ­19­, 2018 at Carteret Health Care.

A service celebrating her life will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, June 23, 2018 at Newport Baptist Church, officiated by Reverend Gary Carroll and Reverend Jack Bowen. There will be a private interment following at Cedar Grove Cemetery.

Ada lived in Newport her entire life and attended Newport Consolidated School graduating in 1931. She met and married Clifton Lupton and they became active members of Newport Baptist Church in 1954. Ada served as a Training Union teacher working with young children for many years. She loved  her Sunday School Class, her Tuesday morning Bible Study and every member of Newport Baptist Church. Ada derived much joy from gardening. She planted, tended, picked, canned, froze and cooked fruits and vegetables for herself and shared with her loved ones.

She is survived by many nieces, nephews and their families. She loved her family and we all loved her dearly. “Aunt Ada” was special to everyone who knew her. We will miss her but are comforted by the assurance she is in her heavenly home forever.

Ada was preceded in death by her husband, Clifton Lupton; parents, Blainy and Sarah Waters Gray; and seven brothers and sisters, Zilphia Smith, Adrow Gray, Edith Gray, Leo Gray, Flossie Fulcher, Irma Nelson and Richard Gray.

Family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Friday, June 22, 2018 at Newport Baptist Church.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Newport Baptist Church Building Fund at Post Office Box 1330, Newport, NC 28570, or a charity of your choice.
