Grethe "Gretchen" Bakke Koury

Grethe “Gretchen” Bakke Koury, 83, of Newport, passed away Tuesday, February 8, 2022, at the Crystal Coast Hospice House.

Grethe, or better known as Gretchen, was born on June 24, 1938, in Norway, to the late Einar and Jenny Jorgensen. She was blessed with many happy years with the love of her life, the late Ken Koury. She had special memories of their time in California and traveling the countryside together. She loved her pets, walking, classical music, chocolates, and Bible study with friends, as well as playing bingo. She was often described as the “sweetest woman you’d ever meet”, her charm and kindness made an impression on all she met. Gretchen enriched the lives of all she knew, and she will be remembered as a beloved wife, loving and caring sister, and special aunt.

She is survived by her many dear friends, including Doris Phipps of Newport and Jean Mabe of Newport.
